AWOL (A Work Of Love) is an event planned for the week of 29 June to 4 July 2009 that will host 300 teenage campers in Empangeni.
These teens will show God's love in the community of Empangeni by tackling various projects/outreaches that are organised and run by the local churches.
These projects/outreaches could be long term or as long as duration of AWOL – either way, 300 willing teenagers will be available to make a difference for one whole week!
We are therefore approaching various people, companies, organisations and the municipality for assistance towards this venture.
Mission Our desire is to impact four different groups of people in the following way:
1. Teenagers:
- To show God’s love in practical ways so that the community will know that we, as Christian teenagers, are not just a voice but we are God’s hands and feet too.
- To come together with others my own age, worship God, make friends and have some fun knowing that we all share a common purpose.
2. Churches of Empangeni:
- To support teenagers in their effort to show God’s love to the community of Empangeni by arranging projects/outreaches in which they can participate.
- To join with others in my own church so that we can make a difference in our own town and use the opportunity of AWOL to spur others on to do the same.
- To partner with other churches in projects/outreaches to celebrate our unity in Christ.
3. Community:
- To see that Christians love people and love our town and are relevant in meeting the needs of both.
4. Visiting churches:
- To be a part of a mission that makes a difference locally and to be encouraged to do the same in my own area.
The AWOL core team is represented by four churches, namely, Victory Family Church (Church of the Nations), Empangeni Baptist Church, Thandaza Covenant Church (New Covenant Ministries International) and Empangeni Methodist Church.
It is the desire of the AWOL core team to involve all churches in Empangeni to make this event a success. |
